It’s a brand new year and this is time that most people start taking a look at their health. January marks a new fresh start and new resolutions, so it’s time to start a diet. Well as you know “diets” don’t work. Geneen Roth, author of When Food is Love states, “for every diet, there is an equal and opposite binge.” The key is to make small lasting changes and balance your relationship with food. I am still working this out in my own life and would love to share what has helped me lose 46 lbs and keep it off.
I have eaten more raw fruits and veggies and less refined sugar. Easier said than done of course, but none the less it’s the truth. Juicing fresh organic greens and a small apple or carrot will keep you going strong for days. It will also give you dense rich nutrients that will allow you to crave healthy foods.
Your local health food store with a juice bar has ready to go organic produce to be juiced for you. Once you get serious, you can invest in a juicer and do it at home. I currently do a 3 day juice fast every 3 months to help me to reset my body. Other experts recommend taking a juice fast one day a week to give your digestion a break. All methods are great and I highly recommend adding juicing to your life. Even if you add one 8 0z glass a day to your diet or supplement a meal with your juice, your body will be glad you did.
There are lots of recipes online,
Here’s my recipe to start:
2 bunches of kale, spinach, whole lemon/lime, 2 celery stalks, 1 cucumber (peeled), fennel, and 1 apple. Run it through or juicer or blended it well. For kids just add spinach to strawberries, blueberries and bananas. They will never know they consumed spinach.
Once you do your juicing for one to three days make sure to start your next meal with some nice raw foods. Begin with a salad with lots of vegetables, and add beans for protein. Make sure to keep the dressing to a minimum. Then slowly add small amounts of animal protein if you desire. I wish for you a great and last start to healthy living in 2012.
